One Anothering: Studies and Workshops
In a time marked by division, we can choose unity, even without uniformity of opinion. In addition to exploring One Anothering in worship through our sermon series, we are offering a study and a workshop on the topic:
One Anothering Study
This 8-week study by the Colossian Forum invites Christians to cultivate mindsets and habits to grow in Christian virtue. This isn’t about changing political positions, but learning how to hold others’ beliefs – and still be in relationship with them. You’ll learn how to show up and love one another in these politically polarizing times. The same study will be offered on 2 different days/times.
Sunday Study Option:
- Weekly on Sundays from 11:15 am-12:45 pm
- Oct. 4-Nov. 22 (8 weeks)
- Facilitated by Deb Murphy
Wednesday Study Option:
- Weekly on Wednesdays from 11 am-12:15 pm
- Oct. 7-Dec. 2 (8 weeks, excluding Nov. 25 of Thanksgiving Week)
- Facilitated by Rev. Ray Broadwell, Rev. Elaine Lilliston, and Caroline Jackson
One Anothering Workshop
We live in a time marked by disunity and division, but as Christians we have an opportunity to choose unity, even without uniformity of opinion. In this workshop facilitated by The Colossian Forum, we will learn how to embrace one another, despite our differences, in Kingdom-oriented ways that uphold our commitments to love God and neighbor above all.
There will be two identical workshops offered Wednesday, Oct. 14:
- 10 am-12 pm with coffee and light refreshments provided
- 6:30-8:30 pm with the option to order dinner from Hibachi & Co. Those who register for the evening workshop will be emailed a link to order dinner a week prior to the event.
Childcare is available with RSVP for both workshops!

Safe Harbor: Affirming Small Group
Safe Harbor is an affirming gathering for adults who are or who love someone LGBTQ+. All are invited – whether you are LGBTQ+ or a parent, grandparent, sibling, spouse, relative, friend, or ally. You are welcome wherever you are on your journey. Where love listens, learns, and stays.
Initial meeting on Wednesday, October 21 from 6:30-9pm in Room 203.

Footsteps of Paul Land and Cruise Tour
Embark on an adventure with fellow FVUMC friends as you retrace the footsteps of the Apostle Paul and his many missionary journeys. Scripture will take on new meaning as you visit the ancient communities where Paul established churches – and to whom he penned his epistles, including the Thessalonians, Philippians, Corinthians, and Ephesians. This land and cruise tour to mainland Greece, the Greek Isles, and Turkey will take you to many significant sites of the New Testament as well as some of the most magnificent sights of the Mediterranean.
This trip will take place in Summer 2027. An info session is set for Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026 from 1-2 pm in Rm 117/119, with light refreshments and a special representative from Globus Journeys.

New Members Class Information
What is FVUMC all about? What does it mean to be a member of this covenant community? How do I meet people at FVUMC? Get answers to these questions and bring your own to New Members Class. You’ll meet other new people, learn about our church family, and learn how you can connect deeper with God and one another.

Home For Our Hearts
This new faith-based support group is for mothers grieving loss at any stage of pregnancy, during birth, or in infancy. Whether your loss occurred through miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal loss, or another form of pregnancy or infant loss, you are welcome here. Together, we create a compassionate and confidential space where every life is remembered, every mother’s grief is honored, and hope is gently nurtured through faith, prayer, and shared understanding.
- Monthly on 3rd Sundays from 1:30-2:30

Joy Women’s Cancer Support Group
This group meets twice monthly on Thursday mornings (offsite) and is for any woman who has ever heard the words “You have cancer,” no matter their age. They share their experiences and learn what it means to embrace life and faith with joy after a cancer diagnosis.
The group typically follows a bible study format, most recently finishing “Fight Back with Joy”, but also approaches each session led by the Holy Spirit to meet the needs of the group on that particular day.

Caregiver Support Groups
FVUMC offers two support groups for caregivers:
Caring for Parents
- Meets periodically on Thursday evenings in person and/or online
- Facilitators: Nicki Knowles & Dawn Whittington
- This group is for people who are currently caring for their parents and/or in-laws.
Caregivers Group (spouses & families)
- Bimonthly on 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, 10-11:30 am via Zoom
- Facilitator: Susanne Young, susanneyoung@msn.com
- This group gathers via Zoom twice a month to support, encourage, and pray for one another.

Lectio Divina Group
Drop in on third Sundays each month and learn to apply this ancient practice of reading, meditation, and prayer. No advance preparation needed.
These gatherings are facilitated by Donna Wells.
Meets on Third Sundays from 11:15am-12:15pm in the Chapel.
