    A Binding Truth Documentary

    You are invited to a viewing of A Binding Truth, followed by discussion led by the FVUMC Racial Equity Team on Sunday, August 30 from 2-4pm. A Binding Truth is a documentary sharing the story of two people’s unexpected connection that explores slavery’s legacy and the current racial divide. We invite you into a time of reflection, discussion, and learning with refreshments and meaningful community. Childcare is available with RSVP.

  • World Refugee Day

    This weekend is the annual World Refugee Day led by the United Nations. This is a day when we remember the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. To learn more on this topic, look for our FVUMC Racial Equity Team in the lobby on Sunday and hear about their book and resource recommendations.

    Fuquay Juneteenth Celebrations on 6/19-20

    A two-day Juneteenth celebration is being held at the FV Arts Center. The 6th Annual M.A.N.iFest (Music, Art, and Networking) event is a two-day community celebration of African American contributions in Fuquay-Varina. This year’s event theme is “Freedom Rooted. Future Bound”.

    • On Friday, 6/19 the Kickoff event is from 7-9pm.
    • Saturday’s Freedom Fun Day includes a fun run, guided hike, and variety of presentations and workshops from 7:30am-4:30pm.

  • Called to Journey, Called to Welcome, A Biblical Perspective on Immigration

    This study will equip participants to engage, connect and discuss immigration from a Biblical perspective. We will consider our call to Christ-like hospitality, practice listening to one another, and brainstorm what it might look like to serve without reservation. All are welcome.

    Led by Pastor Melanie Sebastian Stafford, the group will meet weekly on Sundays from 1:30-2:45 pm, Oct. 12-Nov. 16 (6 weeks).

  • Online Racial Equity Training

    One of the opportunities our Racial Equity Team has researched and recommended to Church Council is in-depth training for our church leaders on the concepts of racism, equity, and justice.We are excited to announce that FVUMC is hosting Phase I training on January 8-9, 2022!

    The training is being led by the Racial Equity Institute, a nationally recognized alliance devoted to the work of creating racially equitable organizations and systems. Through this training, interested leaders in our congregation, along with members of our Racial Equity Team and pastoral staff, will gain tools that challenge patterns of power and inequity. This training is designed to equip participants with the tools and knowledge to create space for the crucial work of racial equity and to explore ways to invite our congregation to join in our efforts.

    We know it can be a challenge to talk effectively with your kids about race and racial equity. Let’s sit down together and explore Christ-centered approaches to these important discussions with your children and youth.

    Join members of FVUMC’s Racial Equity Team on Sunday, Oct. 3 from 2-3:30pm at our picnic shelter (near the garden). No RSVP needed – all are welcome.

  • gRACE Talks – Casual Conversations on Racial Equity and Justice

    Our Racial Equity Team invites you to join us next week for “gRACE Talks,” an opportunity for casual conversations with our team about racial equity and justice.

    This is a chance for us to have holy dialogue with one another, to listen to each other’s story and speak about our own experiences about race. We will also discuss scriptures that move us toward the work of justice.

    We’re hosting 2 sessions:

    1. Virtual option via Zoom on Thursday, October 1 at 8:00 PM (link sent after you register)
    2. In-person option on Sunday, October 4 at 12:30pm at the church tents behind the building
