Main Street Kitchen

One way Fuquay Varina UMC serves our neighbors and shares God’s love is through a meal preparation and delivery outreach called Main Street Kitchen. Each month, folks work together to prepare around 400 hot meals for people in the community. Food scarcity is a very real challenge in our area. In Wake County, one in every ten people don’t know where their next meal will come from. Many of the MSK recipients depend on these deliveries to fill in the weekend gaps of Meals on Wheels and other programs.

To accomplish this outreach mission every third Saturday, it takes a wide variety of skills and a lot of teamwork. In the kitchen, our team has dedicated chefs, grill masters, and bakers who plan and prepare a variety of meals throughout the year. We also have a wonderful team of shoppers who help us find donations and make the most of our funds. 

The week prior to a delivery, we have a team of volunteers who make phone calls to recipients to check in with them and find out how many meals they need. Our logistics team then plans the routes and prepares labels for the delivery bags. Prayer warriors write devotionals that are distributed with each month’s delivery. Volunteers also help with tasks including setup, delivery packaging, and cleaning. After the food is prepared, our delivery team pulls up in the church parking lot, receives their delivery route list, pops their trunk so the bags can be stored, and is quickly on their way.
