Study Team Updates

For 125 years, Fuquay Varina United Methodist Church has welcomed new neighbors as our town grew around us. Since 1903, each generation has responded to the guidance of God’s Spirit to offer Belonging, Transformation, and Serve the Community by creating more space for more people to be in communion with God and in community with one another.

The founding congregation built a simple space where their neighbors could belong. When they outgrew that facility, the next generation rebuilt on Main Street during the Depression.  They were not chasing size or prestige. Instead, they believed in a future that welcomed more people into a life-transforming relationship with Jesus.

As the town grew, they continued to add buildings in that location designed to meet the needs of their growing town. The generation who sold that building in the center of town and moved to what felt like the edge of everything weren’t spreading out for their own comfort, they were making room for the people of our generation, many of whom they would never meet.

Today, we have the same opportunity.

We are called to be a hub for Wesleyan discipleship and mission in the greater Fuquay-Varina area where our lives and our community are transformed to look more like Jesus. That calling has not changed. Transformed Lives Transform Communities. What is changing, quickly and visibly, is the size of the region God has called us to serve and the constraints of our current facilities to help us serve.

As has always been the case for our church, the work in front of us is not a crisis to react against but a calling to step into. Every previous generation of this congregation faced a similar moment: the town was changing, the people arriving needed something this church was uniquely positioned to offer, and the existing footprint could not yet hold who God was sending. The faithful answer was never identical but the faithful posture is always the same.

Thank you for your interest in our facilities planning project.
