- Various Dates – A Doorway to Hope – Summer Foods Program
A Doorway to Hope is a Christian organization in Cary that provides temporary, emergency assistance for the working poor in Southwest Wake County. They assist working families in crisis to meet their immediate need, returning them to a state of self-sufficiency. This summer, they will serve 100 meals to the community every Monday-Thursday from June 15-August 20, ensuring that children without access to free and reduced lunch at school will receive hot meals during the summer months. The Society of St. Andrew brings people together to harvest and share healthy food, reduce food waste, and build caring communities by offering nourishment to hungry neighbors. A primary way they do this is by utilizing volunteers to glean and donate food that would otherwise go to waste. - Jul. 25 – The Hope Closet – Delivering paper products – The Hope Closet is a nonprofit and emergency resource based in Fuquay Varina that collects essential items donated by the community and connects them to individuals and families in need throughout southern Wake County. They need volunteers to help deliver paper products to individuals and families on Saturday, July 25 from 10-11 am. If you can help, email info@hopecloset.org.
- Aug. 8 – Pine Acres Community Center – Food distribution – Pine Acres is a local community center that has been serving the Lincoln Heights neighborhood and the greater Fuquay-Varina community since 1962. On the second Saturday of every month, they host a food distribution where anyone in the community can come and pick up bags of free food and produce. Volunteers are needed from 8-10 am to help with sorting and organizing food donations, and then from 10 am-12 pm to help distribute food to folks in their cars as they drive through.
