Fuquay-Varina United Methodist Church is a thriving faith community in southwestern Wake County, North Carolina.
We’ve been around since 1903, and we like to think we’re improving with age! Not many things have that kind of consistency these days, but our congregation was built on a solid foundation by people deeply invested in their faith, their families, and their community. While a lot has changed over the years, who we are and what we’re about has remained the same. As we have been, we are…
- We are a Family. We are a home, a place to find identity, belonging, and purpose.
- We are Sheep and Shepherds. We are followers of Jesus and as disciples, we are sent to invite others to follow Jesus.
- We are Gathered and Scattered. Shaped and formed by watching Jesus, we are empowered to go and do in the world.
- We are Open-Handed. We are a giving, caring people who bring a generosity of spirit and love to all that we do.
- We are Good Neighbors. Built to be together, we readily offer ourselves to our community.
- We are FVUMC.
At the turn of the century, a few faithful families in our neck of the woods believed they were called together to build a community in Fuquay Springs.
What started with 17 worshippers in a one-room church has grown into a vibrant spiritual family that has been serving our community as it grows.
Since then, we have weathered plenty of challenges together – depressions and epidemics, wars and hurricanes, mergers and separations, and now two pandemics as well. Through it all, the gift of faith and the bond of family has carried us through.
The same essence and commitment challenged those who came before us to build a building in the middle of the Great Depression (now the home of First UMC on Main Street). A few decades later, we expanded classrooms to make space for new neighbors that were not even here yet. We have worked with other churches in the area to care for the most vulnerable among us. And in the late 1990s, we packed up and moved down Academy Street to the ‘outskirts’ of town, our current location, planning ahead for your arrival and praying for you while we waited.
Just like those first 17 worshippers, we too are called together to build community in Fuquay-Varina. Around here, Sunday mornings feel like an energetic family reunion. People of all ages milling about, catching up with each other. We would love to invite you to be a part of the fam.
We have awesome opportunities for all ages, and we’d love to help you and your family connect with God and one another – whether through small groups, studying together, fun events, music groups, or mission volunteer opportunities.
