December 2023 Progress Report
- Demolition is done! Carpet and drywall are out of the way, and we’ve made it through some raucous days with the concrete cutter. Along the way, our staff has learned lots about using radar to find things underground.
- As with any renovation, it’s been important for us to take the time to ensure the as-built drawings match conditions in the field. While it may not be visibly evident, during the past few weeks we have completed an extensive engineering evaluation in the adult wing to ensure our plans match up with our current building with a focus on safety.
- Items we’re able to repurpose (a.k.a. cost-savings!) – including doors and ceiling tiles, are neatly piled out of the way.
- The children’s wing multi-purpose room is being envisioned and designed as a special space for kids to learn about God and feel connected to God’s creation. More to come!
- Metal framing is in place for walls including new storage closets in both of the multipurpose rooms.
- The family bathroom ran into unforeseen challenges, but a new plan is now in place with equipment on order.
- The R3 team is meeting twice a month with the architect and contractor so everyone stays on the same page with scheduling, open questions, and progress.
- We’re grateful to the team of hard-hat wearing FVUMC volunteers who are lending their expertise to the R3 team and completing frequent walk-throughs to review the plans, evaluate the progress, and offer their insights.
